Locker Letters

- A (really short) Story -

Do you remember when you were in middle school? Finally you weren't considered a "little kid" anymore. You were growing up. Suddenly you found yourself faced with a big school, snooty teachers, some crazy new friends, and crushes on boys you were too shy to even speak to?

Back in those days you didn't have a cell phone. You had to be home by nine, and one of the best (and most fun) ways to keep in contact to your all your buddies was slipping them specially-wrapped notes in the hallways?

Now that we're in high school, a lot of people have moved on. Now they use "texting" on their cell phones. Where's the creativeness in that!? Where are the cutesy little doodles? What about the code-names you make up, in case someone you don't want knowing all your secrets finds the sacred message? Where's the joyful feeling you get of opening your locker and finding a folded piece of surprise waiting for you inside?

Even though some people may argue, we're a bit "too old" for writing notes, I hope we never change our ways.

As she climbed onto the bus, Lexi casually placed the neatly folded note into the hand of her best friend, who was quietly sitting towards the front, looking a bit nervous amidst all the noisy chaos that their fellow school-mates emitted around them.

Without saying a word, Lexi sat down next to Mhim and looked around her with anticipated curiosity.

Just as silently, Mhim unfolded the letter and scanned the message, as well as the little scribble that appeared to be her and Lexi smiling widely at each other. Smiling to herself, Mhim ripped out a piece of paper from her notebook, wrote down a single word on it, clumsily folded it up and passed it to her friend.

Lexi quickly unfolded the piece of paper that read:

"Okay."
